R4B

software
suite

R4B is a software developed by us to acquire and process raw data from one or two X-band radars at the same time and to provide real-time detection and tracking of bird movements (or other flying targets) on a map.

With a horizontal rotating antenna R4B can track individuals or flocks computing path length, direction and speed while with a vertical rotating antenna delivers the precise altitude of the target.

Features

  • Real time tracking of multiple targets;
  • can distinguish between the echoes produced by birds and those generated by other objects;
  • has the function "Label" for adding to the tracks info on species and other details communicated by the observers;
  • has the function Alert and activate, for windfarms, triggers a deterrent (blast) or an action when there is a risk for birds to collide with blades;
  • tracks can be integrated with weather data from a local station;
  • R4B generates a variety of statistical reports and offers off-line analysis of radar data.

R4B generates a live view of the radar data being elaborated in two main screens:

radar video with moving targets highlighted
presentation screen in which moving targets and their trajectories are shown on a map

Analytical tools

The tools include:

  • several filtering options to exclude non-bird targets;
  • pre-configured R (programming language) tools and libraries to produce descriptive results and graphical reports with linear trends and confidence intervals

Radar

We are used to work in harsh environments with our mixed team of radar operators and ornithologists. Our radars can detect birds at night, in the fog, and up to 11 km for big flocks, and can be operated remotely
